Can Hair or Fur Be Added to Rings? | WildBeard Legacy Co
Can Hair or Fur Be Added to Rings?
Yes. Human hair and pet fur can be permanently preserved inside a memorial ring using a resin inlay process. At WildBeard Legacy Co, we incorporate hair and fur into rings regularly — alone, combined with ashes, or alongside other inlay materials. It's one of the most tactile and personal memorial inclusions available.
How Hair and Fur Are Incorporated Into a Ring
Hair or fur is incorporated using the same resin inlay process as cremation ashes. A channel is cut into the ring band, the hair or fur is placed within a clear or tinted epoxy resin, and the resin is poured into the channel and cured. Once fully cured, the resin is sanded flush and polished. The hair or fur is permanently sealed inside the ring.
Depending on the resin type chosen:
- Clear resin: The hair or fur is visible inside the inlay — you can see the individual strands or the texture of the fur
- Tinted resin: The hair or fur is incorporated but the color of the resin dominates; the inclusion adds texture without being the primary visual element
How Much Hair or Fur Is Needed?
Very little. A small pinch of fur or a few strands of hair is sufficient for most ring designs. If you're concerned about the amount you have, contact us during your consultation and we'll confirm whether it's enough.
Can Hair and Ashes Be Combined?
Yes. Combining hair or fur with cremation ashes from the same person or animal is one of the most meaningful inclusions we work with. Both materials are incorporated into the same resin inlay, creating a ring that carries multiple physical connections to the person or animal being honored.
What Types of Hair and Fur Work Best?
- Pet fur: Dog, cat, horse, and other animal fur all work well. Longer fur tends to be more visually striking in clear resin.
- Human hair: Works the same way as pet fur. Can be from the person being honored or from a living person (such as a child's first haircut).
- Beard hair: Yes — beard hair works the same as any other hair.
How to Preserve and Send Hair or Fur
We provide detailed instructions during the consultation process. The key points: keep the hair or fur dry, store it in a small sealed container or zip-lock bag, and ship it with your order information clearly labeled. We confirm receipt as soon as your materials arrive.
