Materials We Use — Every Material, Explained

Every ring we build at WildBeard Legacy Co starts with a material decision. The base metal, the inlay, the memorial inclusion — each choice shapes the look, feel, durability, and meaning of the finished piece. This page covers every material we work with, what makes each one distinctive, and how they pair together.

If you're trying to decide what your ring should be made of, this is the place to start. If you already know what you want, use the links below to go deeper on any specific material.

Base Metals

The base metal is the structural foundation of your ring. It determines the weight, durability, color, and resizability of the band.

Tungsten Carbide

The hardest metal used in ring-making. Virtually scratch-proof, heavy, and permanently polished. Cannot be resized. Available in silver and black (IP-plated). Best for men who work with their hands and want maximum durability.

Titanium

Extremely lightweight, hypoallergenic, and corrosion-resistant. Strong as steel at half the weight. Difficult but sometimes possible to resize. Best for men with sensitive skin or those who prefer a lighter ring.

Damascus Steel

Pattern-welded steel with a flowing, organic Widmanstätten-like pattern that is unique to each piece. Requires care around moisture. Can sometimes be resized. Best for men who want a ring with visible craftsmanship and rugged character.

Black Ceramic

Permanently black all the way through — no plating, no fading. Nearly as hard as tungsten. Hypoallergenic. Cannot be resized. Best for men who want a bold black ring with permanent color.

Sterling Silver

Classic, warm, and workable. Develops a natural patina over time. Can often be resized. Requires regular polishing to prevent tarnish. Best for those who want a timeless, elegant aesthetic.

Natural Inlay Materials

Natural inlays are set into a channel cut into the base metal, adding visual character, texture, and personal meaning to the ring.

Wood

Real stabilized hardwood in species including walnut, koa, ebony, maple, and whiskey barrel oak. Every grain pattern is unique. Requires care around water. Pairs beautifully with ash inlays.

Real shed or harvested antler with natural color variation and organic texture. Harder and more durable than wood. Requires care around water. Ideal for hunters, outdoorsmen, and western-style rings.

Memorial Materials

Memorial materials are the inclusions that make a ring a keepsake — the ashes, fur, or hair that connect the ring to a specific person or animal.

Cremation Ashes

Human or pet cremation ashes incorporated into a resin inlay channel. Permanently sealed inside the ring. Very little ash is required — typically less than a teaspoon.

Pet Fur or Human Hair

Fur or hair preserved permanently inside a resin inlay. Can be used alone or combined with ashes. Visible or embedded depending on the resin type chosen.

Other Meaningful Materials

Dried flowers, soil from a meaningful location, feathers, and other small personal items can sometimes be incorporated depending on the design. Discuss during your consultation.

Material Combinations

Many of our most meaningful rings combine multiple materials. Common combinations include:

  • Tungsten + wood inlay + ash resin
  • Black ceramic + opal inlay + ash resin
  • Titanium + antler inlay + fur resin
  • Damascus steel + ash resin
  • Tungsten + meteorite inlay + ash resin
  • Silver + turquoise + ash resin

During your consultation, we'll help you find the combination that best reflects your story and the person you're honoring.
